Who invented today´s Chinese letter alphabet?
It almost did so itself! Thousands of years ago, people wrote down expressed themselves in writing by using pictograms. In other words, people made pictures. As these were rather complex to draw again and again, they were naturally simplified. That development has led to the Chinese letters or characters as we know them today.
Yet, another great change happened to the Chinese letter in recent history. The Chinese government decided to make a simplified version of the Chinese letters, with the objective of making it easier to learn how to read and write Chinese. Of course, with that change also came a side-effect, namely that you cannot any longer read the original meaning out of many of today´s simplified characters, they have simply been... simplified.
